Henigman Remodeling and Glass takes every precaution to fabricate a strong and airtight window that
will stand up against the elements of time. Our products are designed,
custom hand built at our studio like the early artisans. We follow the
strict guidelines of the Stained Glass Association of America (SGAA) in
which we are affiliates. Our highly skilled craftsmen's dedication and passion
for the legacy of this art is the driving force behind each window fabricated.
We feel fortunate to have the knowledge, talent, and capacity to handle
and preserve this legacy of stained glass.
We Offer: Installation programs, double glazing and metal frames (suited
for single or double glazing) That is specifically made for art glass installation.
A word on glazing
We offer the opportunity for you to choose to have your art glass doubled
glazed with an outside sheet of float glass or lexan. Lexan is a polymer,
which will eventually discolor, and yellow in time. It is a tough and
durable material and is highly recommended for concerns in areas with
vandalism.
Tempered plate glass or float glass on the other hand
has a cleaner look and also is a highly recommended material for most
upper end construction. It is a good material to use if the area has low
vandalism rates. We prefer to use tempered over lexan because the structural
integrity of the material usually enhances and prolongs the architecture
of the project. But sometimes there is a call for lexan, which also can
be a perfect choice in your project. These are two concerns to ask your
client when ordering double-glazing.
We
glaze all our stained glass panels with a special compound made at the
studio. It makes the window airtight and waterproof and yet it allows
the window to have some movement to breathe with the natural elements
so it doesn't crack.
WORD OF WARNING - Please be advised that your
stained glass windows should not be glazed with DAP- this company has
a caution on the can that states "not intended for stained glass
use." Dap is used for face glazing NOT came glazing. We are repairing
windows at this time that have sagged from the use of this product "way
before their time."

Whiting is then used to clean the glazing and
dry it up. It also has the capacity to polish and clean the glass
and leading. The craftsman will use a natural bristle brush to push
the glazing and whiting up into the lead came. He then will clean
off the excess compound to get it ready for the final polishing
and detailing.

A craftsman at Henigman Remodeling and Glass rebuilds one of 15 deteriorated
stained glass panels from a church built in the 1800's. Disassembling
an old window takes as much skill as rebuilding them.
